A simple premise -- boy meets girl and is pulled into the magic world of love -- is stretched into a full-fledged Telugu film by Gautham Menon, resulting in a breezy and lyrical movie thanks to A R Rahman's brilliant music and background score.
Gautham has chosen beautiful locales to shoot the love story with good camera work by Manoj Paramahamsa. As a result Ye Maya Chesaave is a veritable feast for the eyes.
Karthik is at a stage of his life where he has finished his engineering and his parents want him to take up a job. But he wants to be a film director. It's at this time that Jessie (Samantha) walks into his life. She lives in a flat above Karthik's parents. A smitten Karthik tries to woo her. The only hitch is she's a Malayalee Christian and two years older than him.
The film has a feel-good effect. It's yet another film which shows that love transcends religious boundaries, and here age too. The fact that the heroine is older is quite reflective of the times today.
Gautham Menon has woven a fairly good screenplay which holds the film and arrests the attention of the viewer. He does bring out the emotions and expressions well in the artists. His script plus direction are the main strong points of the film.
Rahman's poetic and romantic touch also helps. In fact, the background score which is mellifluous and symphonic in many parts accentuates the romantic feel of the film.

Raja (NTR) is a petty thief. He sets out to steal a gown on the insistence of a businessman (M S Narayana). Raja brings that gown. When he is about to be paid, the businessman dies of heart attack. So Raja yells at Lord Yama in frustration. Yama (MohanBabu) who wants to find out what the people on earth are thinking about him listens this and gets angry. He asks Chitragupta to bring Raja to Yamalokam though he has many years to live. Raja is killed by the goons and is brought to Yamalokam. How Raja makes Yama's life miserable in the Yamalokam and comes to the earth again forms the rest of the story. There is a love angle to this between Raja and Mahi (Priyamani), a jaminder's daughter.

Seenu (Gopichand) is a loyal servant and a right-hand of faction leader Reddeppa (Devaraj). He and Sailaja (Sameera Benarjee) - daughter of Reddeppa - grew together. Nayudamma (Raj Kumar) is an arch rival of Reddeppa. Factional feuds between them have resulted in loss of number of lives among their groups. When Reddeppa realizes that his daughter and Seenu are in love, he swings into action by trying to kill Seenu. Rest of the story is all about how Seenu secures the hand of Sailaja and how he unites the forces of followers in both the warring groups to teach their masters (Reddeppa and Nayudamma) a lesson or two!

It is hard to believe that Sri Raghava, the director who has delivered sensitive entertainers like 7/G Brindavan Colony and Aduvari Matalaku Arthale Verule, could come up with a mediocre epic adventure like this. Yuganiki Okkadu throws up a saga that is interlaced with fictional history, an element of divinity, royalty and heroism, but is strangely imbecilic. There is big money involved, an ensemble cast, good technical team that does an impressive job, but nothing helps the film from coming a cropper.

The story follows from a 12th century saga, which saw the bloody defeat of the Cholas at the hands of the Pandiyas. We are told that the Chola king leaves to a far away island in Vietnam, along with the idol of Pandiya's deity. Centuries later, an archaeologist (Pothan), curios to unravel the mystery, sets upon himself the task of finding the location of the hiding place. However, he gets missing in the midst. That's when Anitha (Reema Sen), an officer specially commissioned by a Union Minister to head the expedition to Vietnam to crack the mystery, joins with Lavanya (Andrea), the daughter of the missing archaeologist, and a guide (Karthi), who go on the mission together with some military officers and villagers.
